Hi, I'm Cesar de Rurange, the founder of 6 Strings Guitar School, established in 2010. I'm a passionate guitarist, instructor, and dad of three, based on Sydney's Northern Beaches. My studio in Mona Vale is a friendly, creative space where players of all ages and skill levels are welcome — from absolute beginners picking up a guitar for the first time to experienced musicians wanting to refine their craft.
At 6 Strings, I tailor every lesson to your goals and musical taste, covering acoustic, electric, bass, and ukulele across a range of styles — from rock and blues to classical, pop, and fingerstyle. My approach focuses on building solid technique, confidence, and musicality while keeping learning fun and inspiring.
When I'm not teaching or jamming with students, you'll find me performing at events and venues around Sydney, either with my acoustic duo or the various bands I'm lucky enough to play with. Sharing music — whether it's on stage or in the lesson room — is what drives me every day.

Playing beyond the lesson room
Students get the chance to showcase their progress through recitals and performances — a huge part of building confidence and stage presence. There's nothing like the first time you play a song in front of a room.
Cesar also performs regularly at events and venues around Sydney with his acoustic duo and several bands. Available for weddings, functions and private events.

School Holiday Guitar Camp
Ready to rock these holidays? Two 60-minute group sessions of playing, learning and jamming with friends. Beginner to advanced welcome, from age 8 up.

Two streams to choose from
Each stream is a pair of sessions — you book the block, not single days. Pick whichever suits your holiday plans. $130 per student covers both sessions, and each group is capped at three students.

Fun first, music together
This isn't a formal lesson — it's a group of kids making music in the same room. The focus is on playing together: locking in with each other, keeping time as a group, and the particular buzz of hearing a song come together when everyone's parts fit.
Along the way we'll work through chords, riffs and songs, pitched so everyone has something to get their teeth into. Complete beginners get the parts they need to join in from the first session. More experienced players get something to stretch them — and often end up helping the newer kids, which is half the fun.
By the end of the second session the group will have a song or two they can play together, start to finish.

What to know
Bring your guitar
Bring your own guitar if you have one — acoustic or electric, both are fine. A limited number of loan guitars are available if you don't have one yet; just mention it when you register and we'll sort it out.
Any level welcome
Never held a guitar, or been playing for years — both work. The sessions are built so everyone has a part that fits where they're at, and nobody gets left behind or bored.
Only three spots per group
Groups are capped at three students, so it stays personal — big enough to play together and feed off each other, small enough that Cesar can help each kid individually. It also means places go quickly.

Frequently asked questions
Everything parents and new students usually want to know before the first lesson.
Do I need my own guitar to start?
No — the studio has instruments on hand for your first few lessons, so you can find out whether it's for you before buying anything. When you're ready, Cesar will help you pick something suitable and affordable for your size, style and budget.
What age can students start?
Students of all ages are welcome. Younger children generally do well starting around age six with 30-minute lessons, but readiness matters more than age — hand size, attention span and genuine interest are the better guide. Adult beginners are just as welcome.
Where are lessons held?
At the 6 Strings studio in Mona Vale, on Sydney's Northern Beaches. It's a relaxed, fully-equipped space with amps, a PA and instruments on site. Parking and waiting space are available.
How long are lessons, and how often?
Lessons run weekly at 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Weekly lessons at a consistent time work best — the routine is what builds progress — but flexible arrangements can be discussed.
What if we need to cancel or reschedule?
Please give at least 24 hours' notice and Cesar will do his best to find you a make-up slot. That way the time can also be offered to another student.
Do you teach bass and ukulele too?
Yes. Alongside acoustic and electric guitar, 6 Strings teaches bass guitar and ukulele — same tailored approach, built around the music you want to play.
What styles of music do you cover?
Rock, blues, classical, pop and fingerstyle — and whatever else you bring in. Lessons are built around your taste in music, and students are encouraged to bring songs they want to learn.
Do you offer online lessons?
Yes. You can learn in person at the Mona Vale studio or online — same lessons, same tailored approach, same rates. Online works well if you're outside the Northern Beaches, travelling, or just prefer learning from home.
Are there performance opportunities?
Yes — students have the chance to showcase their progress through recitals and performances. It's optional, but it's one of the best confidence-builders there is.
How much practice is expected between lessons?
Short and often beats long and rare. Ten to fifteen minutes most days is plenty for beginners. You'll go home with written practice notes each week so you always know what to work on.
